Democratic Party lawmaker Luan Baçi appeared before Albania’s Special Prosecution Against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) on Friday morning in connection with a complaint filed by his former business associate, Aredin Behari.

Baçi arrived at the prosecution office accompanied by his lawyer, Sokol Mëngjesi. The complaint, filed in 2024, concerns allegations related to the origin and declaration of funds connected to Baçi and his family.

According to the allegations, Baçi is accused of concealing or laundering approximately 1.5 million euros through investments in the private company “Geral AM” between 2010 and 2012. The complaint claims that the funds were not properly declared to Albania’s asset-declaration authorities.

The case also involves shares in the company that were reportedly acquired by Baçi’s wife, Elsa Baçi. Earlier reporting on the case has linked the company to the “Diamond Hill” resort complex in Vlora and described disputed investments made during the 2010–2012 period.

The allegations also refer to a period when Baçi was serving as a senior official in Fier. At the time, he was reportedly subject to an investigation over alleged corruption involving driving licenses and was temporarily suspended from his position.

Baçi rejected the suggestion that he had been formally charged. Speaking to reporters around 30 minutes after leaving SPAK, the opposition lawmaker said that no criminal charge had been communicated to him.
