An OSHEE worker lost his life in the early hours of Wednesday while carrying out emergency repairs to the electricity network in the Himarë area, after severe weather caused power outages across several parts of the region.

The incident occurred at around 3:00 a.m., as utility crews were working to restore electricity following disruptions triggered by strong winds and adverse weather conditions.

The victim, identified by police as B.B., 54, from Elbasan, had been deployed to assist local OSHEE teams responding to the outages. According to preliminary information, he was working atop a utility pole in the Potam area of Himarë, attempting to reconnect a power cable when the safety belt securing him reportedly failed. He fell from an estimated height of nine meters and sustained fatal injuries.

Police said the worker was transported to the Himarë Health Center at approximately 3:40 a.m. without signs of life.

Authorities said the exact circumstances of the incident remain under investigation. Initial reports suggest the possibility that the worker may also have been electrocuted, although this has not been confirmed.

Investigators are at the scene collecting evidence, while a technical examination is expected to determine the precise cause of the fatal accident.
