Rama Names Arrested Protesters, Says They Have No Ties to Universities
Prime Minister Edi Rama on Friday released a list of people arrested during a protest, claiming they were not students and had no connection to universities.
Presenting their initials, photographs with their eyes obscured, and alleged criminal records, Rama said the individuals had been used to incite violence during the demonstration. He cited previous convictions and criminal records involving offenses including drug trafficking, theft, assault, weapons possession and murder.
Among those mentioned, Rama said, was a 52-year-old man previously sentenced to 23 years in prison for premeditated murder. He also alleged that several individuals were suspected of receiving funding from Iran, without providing further evidence in his remarks.
Rama argued that the arrests supported his longstanding claim that the protest was not solely driven by students, accusing organized crime and foreign forces of attempting to destabilize Albania.
The allegations have not been independently verified, and the individuals’ guilt in connection with the protest has not been established.
