Parl Speaker Guarantees Added Coop with Opposition for Reforms
Speaker of the Assembly, Lindita Nikolla, received the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden, Ann Linde in meeting, which was also attended by the Vice Speakers of the Parliament, Ermonela Felaj and Enkelejd Alibeaj.
In her speech, Speaker Nikolla underlined that now that the opposition has returne to Parliament, cooperation will be increased by expanding its access to contribute to advancing reforms.
Meanwhile, Nikolla thanked Linde for the support that Sweden gave to the Albanian Presidency of the OSCE as well as the Organization itself, as well as praised the work of the Swedish Presidency in chairing the OSCE in 2021, through dialogue and cooperation, for a more stable and secure Europe.
"Albania, and in particular the Assembly, will continue the successful cooperation with the OSCE for the advancement and deepening of reforms, the improvement of election standards, the consolidation of democratic institutions, the fight against organized crime and corruption, the promotion of good governance. and strengthening civil society.
With the opposition in the Assembly, as an asset of democracy and parliament, we will deepen cooperation by expanding its access to contribute to advancing reforms", she noted.
Furthermore, Nikolla expressed gratitude for Sweden's firm support for Albania's European path and the opening of negotiations.
At the meeting spoke also Alibeaj and Felaj, who expressed their different views on the April 25 elections and the functioning of democratic institutions.
On her part, Linde congratulated Nikolla for the election as Speaker of Parliament and expressed OSCE’s determination to cooperate with Albania for the advancement of the three priorities of the Organization: security, democracy and rule of law and gender equality. It is important that the opposition is in the Assembly and all parties express their perspective and attitudes, through political dialogue and respect for different attitudes and assessments, as marked.
