Premier Reflects on Hate Speech Used in Parliament

In a press conference called at the Rinas airport, as he would be abroad, Prime Minister Edi Rama has expressed his criticism about the language used in Albanian parliament.

PM himself is known for the harsh language used in Parliament, however, the head of the government says that the hate speech should be reduced because the different strata of society take encouraging messages from the speeches made in parliament.

When asked by journalists that these are repeated cases and that he himself has been accused in parliament of violence, if there is a message for men, Rama expressed regret for the language used by lawmakers.

According to him, it is the culture inherited from the dictatorship that dictates such behavior, not accepting the opinion otherwise. Rama acknowledged that what is reflected in Parliament is also encouragement for these criminal elements.

"I think that politics with its language, with its accusations, I mean that rich source of this linguistic dirt and not everyone contributes to feeding a severe psychological climate and it is a great responsibility to do so. As in the time of Rome, the dividing line between the accusers and the accused has been defined. But the equality inherited from the communist regime, but especially from it, which was a space where a whole people grew up and especially the whole generation of politics of these 30 years with no idea of ??the existence of change, rival, opponent in ideas, but only with the idea that whoever thinks differently is the enemy, who should be shot, imprisoned, still continues to have his own tails even today. It is a cultural issue that is not resolved in the blink of an eye. We see it today and you are all bound to reflect on it.

All this frenzy of the language of old times is reproduced for reasons and reasons of the politics of the day. When you look at ghost screens of the past that speak in extreme language, or even the mirror of parliament where unfortunately there is no lack of extremes in accusations. Then it is understandable that the message received by different strata of society, even these criminals is encouraging, unfortunately. This is not a matter of message, but of example. What can be said more than patience and example. You said dozens, but thankfully there are not dozens, of course, there are cases that are repeated and these extreme cases are enough and as if they are very little to be shocked. What is constantly repeated is domestic violence against women. The legislation there is one of the harshest, but when the cases in the courts show that the judicial bodies favor men in relation to the raped women, this is a big scandal,” Rama said.
