President Begaj's Letter to the Constitutional Court: Declare Incompetence in the Veliaj Case!
The Albanian President, Bajram Begaj, has addressed a letter to the Constitutional Court this Wednesday, requesting a declaration of incompetence in the case of Erion Veliaj, who has appealed the decision of the Council of Ministers to dismiss him from office as mayor of Tirana.
In this letter sent by Secretary General Valbona Lusha, the Presidency asks the Constitutional Court to lift the suspension of the decree at the beginning of the October 31 session, arguing that the suspension has prevented the holding of new elections in the Municipality of Tirana.
To dismiss Veliaj's request, considering it unfounded in Article 115 of the Constitution, and to order the Central Election Commission (CEC) to begin preparations for new elections in the Municipality of Tirana, on a date to be determined by the Constitutional Court, but no earlier than 30 days after the entry into force of the final decision.
