Romanian Family Detained After Allegedly Attempting to Smuggle Knife and Phone Into Women’s Prison in Albania

Three members of a Romanian family, a father, mother and their son, have been taken into police custody after allegedly attempting to bring prohibited items into a women’s prison in Pojskë, near Pogradec.

The incident was uncovered a day earlier when the family arrived to visit a female relative who is serving a sentence for fraud at the correctional facility.

During a routine inspection of bags containing clothes for the inmate, prison staff reportedly discovered a knife and a mobile phone hidden among the belongings.

According to preliminary information, the Romanian family had arrived in Albania just two days before the incident.

Investigators are working to determine why the knife was allegedly brought into the facility, particularly as the inmate is not known to have had conflicts with other prisoners.

Following the discovery, authorities also searched the inmate’s cell but found no additional illegal items.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and determine whether further individuals were involved.
