Saimir Tahiri Appears at Court, New Judges Appointed

Former Minister of Interior, Saimir Tahiri appeared this Wednesday at the Special Cout against Organized Crime and Corruption (GJKKO) to start the session with the new trial panel.

A few weeks after the High Court overturned the decision, the case against former Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri and Jaeld Çela was registered with the Special Court of Appeals for Corruption and Organized Crime.

The High Court decided to return the case for review to another panel of the Special Court, arguing that there were procedural violations during the trial against Saimir Tahiri.

In addition to the conflict of interest of Judge Albana Boksi, the court states that the prosecution gave the criminal facts a different definition from the accusation and that it did not allow the former minister to defend himself on charges of abuse of office who was sentenced to 5 years in prison converted to 3.4 years of probation.

SPAK accused him of drug trafficking, but the court sentenced the former Minister of Interior only for abuse of office, while with the reversal of the decision by the High Court, the file was returned once again to the Appeal.
