Albania’s Special Prosecutor’s Office (SPAK) has ordered a search of the home of Ilir Proda, the former Director General of the State Police, as part of an ongoing criminal investigation.

The search was reportedly ordered in the early hours of the morning as part of a wider SPAK operation that is also believed to involve other senior officials. Authorities have not yet released full details, as the operation remains ongoing.

Proda led Albania’s State Police for more than two years before being dismissed from his position in March 2026. His name has previously been linked in public allegations to businessman Ergys Agasi, who was arrested in connection with a separate investigation involving Albania’s National Agency of Information Society (AKSHI).

Sources cited by local media report that prosecutors may have obtained new information following the examination of mobile phones and other evidence seized after Agasi’s arrest. Investigators are reportedly examining whether the material points to possible links or involvement by additional individuals.

Some of the individuals reportedly under investigation have previously been accused by members of Albania’s opposition of having links to people associated with organized crime. Those allegations remain allegations and would need to be established through evidence and a final court decision.

Searches involving senior police officials have occurred in Albania in the past, although previous cases have involved different circumstances and did not necessarily concern alleged links to organized crime.

SPAK has not yet publicly disclosed the full scope of the operation or the identities of all officials affected. Further details are expected as the investigation continues.
