SPAK Seeks Answers from Ministry: Why Police Did Not Reacted During Protest in Front of Institution

The Special Prosecution against Corruption (SPAK) reacted against the role of police during the protest held in front of this institution after the arrest of the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj.

Through an official letter, SPAK requires explanation by the Interior Ministry, why police officers did not reacted against the protesters, considering that they violated the law in this case and threatened the independence of the justice bodies.

“SPAK has requested through official letter with protocol no. 5458, dated 14.02.2025: Taking measures by the Ministry of Interior and the General Directorate of the State Police to hold accountable the persons responsible for the lack of reaction. An argumentative explanation for the lack of measures as in similar cases in the incident of 12.02.2025,” the announcement states, among other things," says the letter.

On Wednesday, hundreds of supporters of the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, gathered in front of SPAK to protest against his arrest.

Public figures were also part of the rally.
