Two Senior Officials Suspended After Physical Altercation at IKMT Offices
A serious incident was reported Tuesday inside the offices of the Inspectorate of the Protection of Territory (IKMT), where two senior officials became involved in a physical confrontation, prompting their immediate suspension and the launch of administrative and criminal investigations.
According to preliminary information, Fatmir Meta, Director of Enforcement of Decisions, clashed with Klesti Çela, Director of Environment at the same institution. The altercation reportedly stemmed from an earlier dispute regarding an inspection group overseeing soil dumping activities around Tirana.
Sources indicate tensions escalated over alleged interference in competencies. It is claimed that Meta had blocked vehicles belonging to entities accused of depositing soil in the outskirts of the capital, an action that allegedly triggered friction between the two officials.
The conflict, which reportedly began a day earlier, is said to have escalated into physical violence within the institution’s premises. Reports suggest Meta was struck by Çela and several individuals accompanying him. According to the same sources, Meta was allegedly assaulted with the butt of a pistol by four individuals. The full circumstances of the incident remain under investigation.
Following the altercation, the Inspector General, Dashnor Sula, ordered the suspension of both Klesti Çela and Fatmir Meta from their duties pending the outcome of the investigations.
In an official statement, IKMT confirmed that a comprehensive verification process has been initiated and that disciplinary mechanisms ??????????ed by current legislation have been activated.
“The General Inspectorate does not tolerate any form of violence, inappropriate conduct, or breach of institutional integrity. Public administration must serve as a model of correctness, professionalism, and responsibility. The integrity of the institution and citizens’ trust are an absolute priority. The General Inspectorate will continue to inform the public and the media on the progress of procedures,” the statement read.
Authorities have not yet released further details regarding potential criminal charges.
