SPAK Submitts Report, Major Seizures and Investigations

The Special Prosecution against Corruption (SPAK) in Albania reported significant seizures and an increase in criminal investigations during 2025, according to its annual report.

Over €45.5 million, including cryptocurrency assets linked to organized crime, were confiscated throughout the year. SPAK investigated a total of 871 criminal cases in 2025, with 294 new cases and approximately 570 carried over from 2024.

In the fight against high-level corruption, SPAK investigated 27 criminal cases involving 30 current or former high-ranking officials. Financial investigations saw 13 asset-related cases registered and 18 financial referrals addressed.

Election-related crimes were also a focus, with 70 cases investigated and 27 individuals under investigation.

The report highlights the increasing use of digital forensics in investigations: 375 mobile phones, 65 computers, and 63 USB drives and CDs were examined in 2025. Additionally, court-authorized wiretaps were implemented on 3,004 phone numbers during the year.

SPAK’s annual report reflects the prosecution’s expanded capacity to combat organized crime, corruption, and election-related offenses across Albania.
