The general staff of Ukraine's armed forces says it struck the Orsknefteorgsintez oil refinery in Orsk - a city in the Orenburg region.

The site hit by the “deep strike” is 1,500km (930 miles) from the frontline, Ukraine says.

It calls the refinery "one of the largest" in the region and "an important enterprise in Russia's fuel and energy sector".

"A fire has been reported. The extent of the damage is being clarified," the general staff says.

President Zelensky has said recently that attacks on energy infrastructure are aimed at limiting the oil revenues Moscow "uses to finance" the war.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says the overnight strikes on Zaporizhzhia involved North Korean ballistic missiles.

In a post on X, he describes it as a "vicious attack, calculated to inflict maximum damage specifically on civilian infrastructure".

Six were killed and 19 injured in the region.

In Kyiv, Zelensky says a strike damaged an infectious disease hospital. Meanwhile, strikes on substations in Kherson and Kharkiv resulted in power outages, he adds.

"Every step Russia takes - increasing ballistic missile production, bringing in North Korean equipment, preparing for mobilization - all of this shows that Moscow is preparing not for peace, but for escalation," he says, calling on allies to respond with sanctions and air defences.
