US Embassy to Tirana has highlighted Tuesday that the role of a strong and independent media is paramount when it comes to the fight against corruption and end of impunity.

On World Press Freedom Day, the Embassy stressed its support to independent journalists who strive to discover and report the truth, play their role responsibly, and operate in an environment that is free from harassment, intimidation and self-censorship.

Meanwhile, the Embassy brought to attention the meeting of Ambassador Yuri Kim with journalists Edmond Hoxhaj (BIRN Albania) and Isa Myzyraj (Ora News) from last week, during which she expressed support to independent reporters.

“On World Press Freedom Day, the United States reiterates its unwavering support for independent journalists who strive to discover and convey the truth, play their watchdog role in a responsible manner, and operate in an environment that is free from harassment, intimidation and self-censorship. Last week, Ambassador Yuri Kim met with journalists Edmond Hoxhaj (BIRN Albania) and Isa Myzyraj (Ora News) to express steadfast support for independent journalists and condemn direct and indirect attacks against reporters who seek to report independently and accurately. For the fight against corruption to succeed and impunity to end, the role of a strong and independent media is paramount”, highlighted the Embassy.
