56 Security Academy Students Hospitalized in Suspected Food Poisoning Incident in Albania

Fifty-six students from Albania’s Security Academy were sent for medical treatment to the Infectious Diseases Department at the University Hospital Center “Mother Teresa” after they were allegedly poisoned following the consumption of food served on the academy’s premises, according to a police statement released on Wednesday.

Authorities said all students received the necessary medical assistance and were later discharged from the hospital in good health condition.

Investigators from Police Station No. 1, acting under the direction of the Tirana Prosecutor’s Office, launched an investigation into the incident and carried out several procedural actions.

Police announced the arrest of two individuals identified by initials as K.B., 52, and K.P., 23, who worked respectively as a cook and food technologist for the company contracted to provide meals at the Security Academy.

Meanwhile, criminal proceedings were initiated against another food technologist, identified as R.Ç., 35, who is being investigated while remaining free pending further legal procedures.

Authorities have also declared the company’s administrator, identified as A.T., 52, wanted, as efforts continue to locate and apprehend her.

Investigators said work is ongoing to fully document the criminal responsibilities of all individuals involved in the case.

The procedural materials have been referred to the Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction in Tirana for the criminal offense of “importing, producing, selling, and storing food dangerous to human health or life,” police said.
