Albania Considers Social Media Restrictions for Minors Amid Rising Youth Violence
Prime Minister Edi Rama has announced plans to consider new measures to tackle youth violence, including possible social media restrictions for minors aged under 16 or 18.
Speaking at the National Council for the Rights and Protection of Children, Rama said the government would consult parents, teachers and schools on limiting children's access to social media.
He also proposed financial penalties for families whose children cause damage, while stressing the need for greater support for vulnerable households.
Other measures include increased financial assistance for families, expanded sports and cultural activities, and extending the school day until 5 p.m. starting next year.
Rama said tackling youth violence requires a broader approach focused on prevention, education, family support and protecting children from growing social pressures.
