Albania has introduced new noise restrictions for bars, restaurants and entertainment venues in coastal tourist areas, limiting loud music during the evening and requiring it to stop after midnight, Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari announced on Tuesday.

Speaking during a visit to the northern coastal city of Lezhë, Lamallari said the new directive, signed jointly by the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Health, entered into force upon its publication in the Official Gazette.

Under the new rules, the maximum permitted noise level in public areas will be 65 decibels between 11:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. From 8:00 p.m. until midnight, the limit will be reduced to 45 decibels. Music must cease after midnight.

Lamallari said the State Police and Municipal Police will monitor compliance and take enforcement measures against venues exceeding the permitted noise levels.

"We want holidaymakers to enjoy peace and quiet, both while visiting restaurants and entertainment venues and in other public areas," the minister said. "Anyone choosing to spend their holidays with their family in Shëngjin or other tourist destinations across the country should be able to rest without being disturbed by excessive noise."

According to Lamallari, the directive was drafted in line with the World Health Organization's recommended standards on environmental noise.

During the visit, Lamallari, accompanied by State Police Director General Skënder Hita, met with local officials in Lezhë to discuss coordination between national and local authorities aimed at ensuring public safety and a successful summer tourist season.

Lezhë Mayor Pjerin Ndreu said cooperation between the municipality and the State Police had strengthened public order and security, contributing to what he described as a successful tourism season. He also welcomed the government's new measures to reduce noise pollution in tourist areas.
