Portugal Government Monitoring Death of 20-Year-Old Tourist in Albania

The Portuguese government says it is closely monitoring the case of a 20-year-old Portuguese tourist who was killed in Ksamil, southern Albania, as local authorities continue their investigation.

Raquel Trindade, from the office of Portugal’s foreign minister, said the government does not yet have official information about the circumstances surrounding the death or the progress of the investigation.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is following the case of this Portuguese citizen who died in Albania and, through its embassy in Rome and also the honorary consulate in Tirana, we are cooperating with the local authorities,” Trindade told Portuguese broadcaster Renascença.

She said that, at this stage, the exact circumstances of the incident remain unclear.

“We know from the local press that there have been arrests, but at the moment we still do not have information through our network,” Trindade said.

The Portuguese Foreign Ministry said it would continue to monitor developments and remain in contact with both Albanian authorities and the victim’s family.

The death of the young Portuguese tourist has drawn attention in Portugal as authorities in Albania continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the killing.
