Albania Police Chief Calls for Tech-Driven Road Enforcement and Stronger Traffic Safety Measures

Skënder Hita, Director General of the Albanian State Police, held a series of meetings with officers from the Traffic Police Commissariat in Tirana, as well as senior officials from the Public Security Department and regional traffic sector chiefs.

During the meetings, Hita called for increased attention and commitment from all police leaders and officers to improve road safety standards and prevent abusive practices in the field.

He instructed officers to avoid stopping vehicles on national roads without clear cause, urging instead the use of modern technology such as speed detection systems, body scanners, and drones. He emphasized that administrative measures generated through these tools must be processed in the system within the same day.

Hita also ordered stricter controls in urban areas through coordinated action plans, targeting illegal parking, dangerous driving maneuvers, excessive noise from modified exhaust systems, and driving under the influence of alcohol.

The police chief noted a positive public response following a recent directive sent to traffic police structures, describing it as a clear signal for reform in enforcement methods.

Additional priorities discussed included ensuring road safety during the tourist season, enhancing security near schools, and strengthening coordination with General Patrol units and the “Shqiponja” rapid response teams.

Concluding the meetings, Hita stressed that traffic police and public order services must serve as a model of professionalism, integrity, and respectful conduct, delivering a higher standard of service to citizens.
