Albania to Host World Law Congress 2027, Prime Minister Edi Rama Announces
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama addressed the opening session of the World Law Congress, announcing that Albania will host the prestigious international legal event in 2027, bringing together some of the world’s most prominent figures in global justice and the rule of law.
Speaking during the ceremony, Rama described the selection of Albania as a major milestone for the country and a recognition of its progress in strengthening democratic institutions and the rule of law over the past decade.
“Albania is becoming the epicenter of an event with global prestige in the field of the rule of law,” Rama said, referring to the congress’s guiding principle: “A world governed by law, not by force.”
The prime minister highlighted the historical significance of the World Jurist Association, founded in 1963 amid geopolitical tensions, and praised its mission of promoting legal order, international justice, and trust in democratic institutions.
Rama noted that the World Law Congress has become a globally recognized institution operating under the patronage of the King of Spain and serving as a platform that promotes the principle of governance through law rather than power.
He said few Albanians would have imagined years ago that Tirana would be selected to host the congress, emphasizing that the decision was not based on geography or climate, but on Albania’s efforts to establish the foundations of a state governed by law.
According to Rama, the hosting of the congress represents international acknowledgment of Albania’s reforms and its long-term challenge to strengthen judicial independence and democratic governance.
