Albanian Businessman Ervin Mata Arrested in Brazil on Drug Trafficking Charges

Brazilian authorities have arrested Ervin Mata, an Albanian businessman wanted for alleged involvement in large-scale cocaine trafficking from Latin America to Europe. The news was confirmed by journalist Klodiana Lala.

According to reports, Brazil’s Federal Supreme Court had previously issued an arrest warrant for Mata, who is being sought by Albania’s Special Prosecution against Corruption (SPAK). Authorities accuse him of playing a leading role in organizing the transport of significant quantities of cocaine across international routes.

Albanian justice authorities had earlier submitted a formal request to Brazilian courts seeking Mata’s extradition. Prosecutors allege that Mata, together with his criminal network, orchestrated the trafficking of narcotics from Latin America into European markets.

Investigators say that over a two-year period, authorities seized approximately 931 kilograms of ??????ics linked to the group’s operations. The proceeds from these activities are believed to have been laundered and invested in construction projects within Albania.

To avoid detection, the group allegedly moved funds using the informal Hawala system, a method often used to transfer money outside traditional banking channels.

The case remains under active investigation as authorities in both countries coordinate further legal proceedings.
