Kledina Skëndo, an employee in the Environmental Permits Monitoring Sector at Albania’s National Environment Agency (AKM), has been placed under house arrest as part of a criminal investigation into hazardous waste exports by the company “Kurum,” prosecutors in Durrës said.

The investigation involves several current and former officials connected to the company’s activities, authorities added.

Skëndo was also a candidate for parliament with the Socialist Party, ranked 34th on the Tirana list during the May 11 elections.
