Albanian MP Issues Public Warning after Alleged Threats Against Her Family
Albanian lawmaker Marjana Koçeku has sparked political debate after publicly warning individuals she claims have threatened her family, following her recent departure from the ruling Socialist Party of Albania.
In a statement published on social media, Koçeku addressed what she described as the Bajri criminal group, a network alleged to have influence in parts of northern Albania, particularly in the region of Shkodër, where she was elected as a member of parliament.
“If even a single hair on my family’s head is touched, I will not stop until I destroy you for as long as I live,” Koçeku wrote in a strongly worded message directed at the group.
The statement has drawn widespread attention across Albania’s political and public spheres, raising concerns over the alleged intimidation of an elected official and her relatives.
Koçeku recently announced her decision to leave the Socialist Party while retaining her parliamentary mandate. Since then, according to local reports, she has faced mounting political pressure from party officials and members who have urged her to relinquish her seat in parliament.
Should Koçeku resign, former minister Edona Bilali would be next in line to take the parliamentary mandate based on the electoral list.
It remains unclear whether the lawmaker will formally report the alleged threats to Albania’s Special Anti-Corruption and Organized Crime Structure, known as SPAK. Observers are also watching to see whether prosecutors will open an investigation based on her public statement.
Authorities have not yet publicly commented on the allegations.
