Albanian State Police Orders Tightened Crackdown on Drug Sales Near Schools
The Director General of the State Police, Skënder Hita, has ordered strengthened measures aimed at combating the sale of narcotic substances near schools, with a particular focus on high schools across the country.
In a directive sent to regional police directorates and departments, Hita called for increased security presence in educational institutions and immediate action against drug distributors operating within school perimeters.
The order follows an analysis of issues identified during the 2024–2025 school year, as well as concerns raised by a parent who reported that their child was offered cannabis near a high school in the capital.
Hita has instructed police forces to conduct both regular and surprise inspections, using not only visible patrols but also undercover officers operating in civilian clothing.
Authorities have also been directed to maintain close coordination with school security officers and school administrators to monitor and address problematic students, prevent conflicts, and respond to the presence of weapons such as knives, as well as the illegal sale of restricted products including alcohol and tobacco to individuals under the age of 18.
