Albanian Wanted for Velipoja Massacre Arrested in Italy

Italian police have arrested an Albanian, who is suspected of being involved in a 4th murder in 2021 in Albania. 

According to Italian media, he was caught by officers at a hotel in Misano Adriatico and then arrested. The Albanian was under investigation for murder and possession of weapons without a permit. 

It is noted that he was also involved in the event that took place in Albania in 2021, where four people were killed and two others were injured, an event known as Velipoja massacre.

In the early hours of June 27, 2021, a conflict over the placement of beach umbrellas in Velipoja caused 4 deaths and 2 injuries. 

The event took place between Gocaj and Verracaku families. 

The victims were the brothers Xhovani and Edmond Gocaj, the waiter of their hotel Myzerim Zeneli and Kujtim Verracaku. 

While Hasan Verracaku (cousin of Kujtim Verracaku) and Elmilind Dyli were injured. 

The crime took place in the courtyard of the Gocaj family hotel in Velipoja. Members of the Verracaku family together with their cousins had gone to clarify about the placement of umbrellas on the beach, but both sides argued.
