Association of Banks Warns of Risk of Fraudulent Calls

The Albanian Association of Banks warned on Thursday the sector's clients regarding several recent cases of fraudulent calls made via VOIP technology (telephony over the internet).

According to the Association's announcement, in recent days, there have been reports of calls from addresses with suffixes such as "@gmail" or other platforms, where the name of a bank is used. During the call, the bank's name or logo may appear on the screen, creating the impression that the call comes from the bank, while in fact it is a fraudulent attempt.

These types of calls are made via the internet, and the true identity of the caller cannot be verified through these addresses (e.g., @gmail, @instagram, or other platforms).

During calls, callers may communicate in different languages ??and request bank card details or other personal information with the claim of stopping some suspicious actions performed with your card.

The Albanian Banking Association reminds customers that banks in Albania never request bank card details, PIN, security codes, or other confidential information over the phone.

Customers are advised that, if they receive a suspicious call, they should not share any personal information and immediately end the call.

Any communication should be verified by contacting the bank only through the official numbers published by it.

By requiring the immediate reporting of any suspicious cases to the relevant bank, the Albanian Banking Association and its member banks express their commitment to raising awareness and protecting customers from financial fraud attempts.
