Durres Police Chief Dismissed Following Fatal Crash That Killed Two Children

Afrim Tafa has been dismissed from his position as director of the Durres Police on Wednesday, just three days after a tragic accident that claimed the lives of two minor children and left another injured.

Authorities confirmed that Tafa has been reassigned as a sector chief within Interpol, a role he previously held before taking charge of the regional police directorate.

Earlier, Tafa was removed from his post alongside Deputy Director Zija Sulaj and the head of the Traffic Police, Kreshnik Skëndo, in what appears to be a broader administrative response to the incident.

The fatal crash occurred on May 3 and has sparked widespread public concern over the response and actions of local police structures. Residents of the area had reportedly raised repeated complaints prior to the incident, intensifying scrutiny on law enforcement’s handling of road safety issues.

The case continues to draw national attention, with growing calls for accountability and improved measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
