EC Reports Progress in Alignment of Business Legislation

The European Commission has positively assessed Albania's progress in aligning its legislation on business and commercial companies with European Union standards.

In its 2026 report, the Commission classifies Albania as having a good level of preparedness under Chapter 6, which covers company law. It also notes good progress during the reporting period, particularly in the adoption of legislation governing the operations of commercial companies, business registration, financial transparency and auditing.

According to the report, Albania has continued to align its national legislation with European directives regulating the establishment, functioning and organisation of commercial companies.

One of the most positive findings is that the European Commission's recommendations from the previous year concerning Chapter 6 have been largely implemented.

In its detailed assessment of the chapter, the Commission highlights amendments to the legislation on business registration and the law on traders and commercial companies.

These amendments aim to bring national legislation into line with EU directives on company law, including provisions governing cross-border mergers, divisions and transformations of companies.

Another development welcomed by the Commission is the adoption of a legislative package aimed at achieving full alignment with European company law.

The report also acknowledges progress in aligning legislation on accounting, financial reporting, transparency and statutory auditing.
