Eight Prison Officers Suspended After Fight at Fier Prison
Eight officers at Fier Prison have been suspended from duty following a disciplinary review and a second examination of the case stemming from a violent confrontation between two inmates on Saturday.
According to sources, the suspensions will remain in place until the investigation is completed and any potential responsibilities are established. The officers were reportedly assigned to two sections of the prison at the time of the incident.
The suspended officers are:
- Chief Inspector G.B. — shift supervisor in the internal regime.
- Inspector Sh.H. — shift supervisor in the internal regime.
- Inspector A.A. — basic-level officer.
- Inspector D.GJ. — basic-level officer.
- Inspector A.H. — basic-level officer.
- Inspector P.K. — basic-level officer.
- Inspector S.Ç. — basic-level officer.
- Inspector A.S. — basic-level officer.
The incident involved inmates Denis Brajovic, also known as Bajri, and Jurgen Zotaj, both of whom were injured. The two men are reportedly out of danger.
Brajovic, who is also known by the surname Bajri, is considered a high-risk individual and has been charged by Albania's Special Prosecution Office (SPAK) in connection with the killing of Gjin Ndoj. Zotaj is serving time in connection with violent robbery and illegal possession of a firearm.
According to information from the investigation, Zotaj was the first to initiate the confrontation and struck Brajovic. The General Directorate of Prisons is expected to take disciplinary measures against both inmates, with an official statement to the media also expected.
Meanwhile, the Internal Control Service of Prisons is verifying a separate report that several armored vehicles were seen outside the prison perimeter and later outside the hospital following the confrontation.
Authorities are investigating reports that supporters of both Brajovic and Zotaj may have been inside the vehicles.
The prosecution is investigating the incident, including possible abuse of office and bodily injury, as authorities continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the prison fight.
