English Teacher Dismissed After Preaching Jehovah’s Faith to Primary School Students in Tirana

An English teacher at the nine-year school “Gustav Majer” in Tirana has been dismissed after parents raised concerns that he was preaching the Jehovah’s faith to students in basic education classes.

According to parents, the teacher used English lessons to discuss religious topics with pupils. While he was regarded as well-prepared in terms of subject knowledge, some parents were either unaware of the situation or satisfied with their children’s academic performance.

The alarm was raised earlier this week by parents of a fourth-grade class, after learning that students were shown videos about divine love for God and were assigned written tasks related to God’s commandments. Photos of the assignments, obtained exclusively by Top Channel journalist Kristi Gongo, were submitted to the school administration.

Among the homework given to pupils were religious texts titled “The Two Greatest Commandments,” stating:
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind,” and
“Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Following the parents’ complaint, the school administration took action and excluded the teacher from his position.
