European Union Approves €21 Million Military Support Package for Albania
The Council of the European Union has approved a third bilateral assistance package for the Albanian Armed Forces under the European Peace Facility (EPF), worth €21 million.
With the latest decision, total European Union support for Albania’s defense sector now reaches €49 million, aimed at strengthening the operational capabilities and readiness of the country’s armed forces.
According to the EU Council, the new package complements previous assistance measures and is intended to improve the Albanian military’s ability to deploy rapidly and effectively, while increasing its contribution to European Union Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) missions and broader international coalitions.
European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas described Albania as a close and reliable security partner.
“Albania is a close and reliable partner in foreign and security policy, an active contributor to European Union operations, and a committed NATO ally. Strengthening our security and defense cooperation with Albania directly reinforces European stability, security and peace,” Kallas said in a statement.
Under the approved package, the European Union will provide the Albanian Armed Forces with light armored multi-purpose vehicles, tactical and engineering equipment, as well as support services including operational training and maintenance assistance.
Albanian Defense Minister Ermal Nufi also welcomed the decision, calling it another important step in supporting the country’s military capabilities.
“This is another significant support package for the Armed Forces of Albania. The Council of the European Union approved the third assistance package for Albania under the European Peace Facility, worth €21 million, bringing total support to €49 million,” Nufi stated.
He added that the package includes light armored vehicles, tactical and engineering equipment, operational training, and support services for the Albanian Armed Forces.
“This is a concrete recognition of Albania’s seriousness, reliability, and active role alongside European allies and partners in the fields of security and defense,” the minister said.
The first bilateral EU assistance measure for Albania was approved in July 2024 with a value of €13 million, while the second package, worth €15 million, was approved in July 2025.
