Ex-Minister’s Proposal to ‘Difuse’ Situation at Albania-Greece Borders
Former Health Minister Tritan Shehu declared Sunday that the concerning situation at borders of Albania with Greece requires a long-term solution as he gave his suggestion on the matter. He urged the government to activate all possible laboratory capacities and conduct direct 24-hour PCR testing at border crossings.
The Democrat emphasized that testing should be the first proposal of the Albanian side to the Greek one, but at least 2.500 daily coronavirus tests and thousands of serological tests are needed nationally. Shehu blamed Prime Minister Edi Rama for failing to manage the pandemic situation properly and for turning the country into the “Black Covid Sheep in Europeâ€.
“Our government must urgently organize and in agreement with the Greek side:
—Continuous PCR 24-hours testing, directly at the four border points, activating all possible laboratory capacities, or others contracted from outside, as is done everywhere in the world. This should be our first proposal to the Greek side, which every day is conducting for the Albanians at the border more tests than our country does in the whole country, precisely to improve the current situation and to start easing the regime of passing of our citizens not only towards Greece, but further to other countries.
—It is also necessary to perform at least 2.500 other free daily PCR tests nationwide, in addition to several thousand serological onesâ€, proclaimed Shehu among other things.
The situation of Albanian immigrants at their homeland's border with Greece appears serious and even revolts have erupted earlier today in Kapshtica, since the quota for 300 people to pass was filled and others were not allowed to go through the customs.
