Family of Five Rescued at Sea After Boat Breaks Down in Bad Weather Off Albania’s Coast

A family of five was rescued by Albania’s Border Police after their boat broke down in rough weather, leaving them stranded at sea near Jala Beach late Tuesday night.

Authorities said police received an emergency call at around 10:30 p.m. reporting that several people aboard a small vessel were in distress after the boat suffered a mechanical failure due to adverse weather conditions.

Border Police immediately launched a search-and-rescue operation using a patrol boat. Officers located the disabled vessel and safely evacuated all five occupants — a married couple and their three children.

The family was transported to the Himarë Border Crossing Point, where they were reported to be in good health. According to police, the rescued family thanked the officers for their swift response and professionalism during the operation.

Albania’s Border Police said they remain on high alert throughout the summer season to ensure the safety of residents and tourists along the country’s coastline. Authorities also urged boaters to follow maritime safety regulations, carry appropriate safety equipment, and avoid sailing during hazardous weather conditions.
