FIA President Responds to Initiative for 1st Formula 1 Race in Albania

President of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), Jean Todt has conveyed a message to Prime Minister Edi Rama regarding the first Albanian car park to be built in Elbasan.

Todt says he supports this initiative which is in line with its priorities and will be dedicated to motor sports but also education and training.

"Ladies and gentlemen, thanks to my friend Niko Leka, I have followed with interest and satisfaction the efforts undertaken by the Albanian government to strengthen road safety rules. Two years ago I had the opportunity to discuss with Prime Minister Edi Rama about the challenges and the importance of implementing this policy.

Today I want to commend this political commitment to better speed control in the city center and near schools by paying close attention to road users, especially pedestrians and cyclists, providing safe and dedicated lanes.

More prevention as well as a strong will to punish dangerous behaviors and disobedience to the rules. I know that Albania has a project for the creation of a center dedicated to motor sports but also education and training. Certainly, the FIA ??supports this initiative which is in line with its priorities," he said.

A few months ago, the head of the General Directorate of Road Transport Services (DPSHTRR) in Albania, Blendi Gonxhe, announced that the first car park in Albania will be built in Elbasan, to enable the development of international car races such as those of Formula 1.
