Fire Engulfed Tirana Building, Head of Fire Service Gives Details
The director of the Tirana fire department, Shkëlqim Goxhaj, issued a statement to the media where he informed about the fire in the 10-story building in the capital on Kavaja Street.
Goxhaj clarified that at this moment the fire is under control and fortunately no residents were injured. He said that it is still not possible to identify the cause of the fire or where the flames first started. The head of the capital's fire brigade added that the fire spread to a large extent from the facade of the building and this was a rare case.
"At this moment we cannot talk about the cause of the fire and the final results. We will all be here until the cause of the fire is determined and until we make sure that there is no loss of life. The fire was spread to the outside of the building, the doors are armoured. Damaged are only the apartments whose windows have been opened.
The facade of the building was damaged. Building fires in Tirana occur in one apartment and in 0.5% of cases the fire spreads from one apartment to another. This case was rare and has caused all the employees of the fire department, Tirana, Vora and Kamza to gather here. It took a long time to get it under control. The facade of the building spread the fire. We have no injured firefighters. The fire situation is under control. The fire was on the second floor of the building and in the upper part, but it remains to be seen how the fire spread," Hoxha declared.
The fire that started around 14:20 on the balcony of an apartment, but it spread quickly and involved several apartments.
