Govt to Become Co-shareholder in Sazan Project
Prime Minister Edi Rama held a meeting on Monday with tourism operators in Vlora on the tourist season, increasing the quality of services, supporting tourism entrepreneurs and promoting the southern costal city as an important gateway for Albanian tourism in the center of global attention.
Prime Minister Rama said that the government is in negotiations with the investor Jared Kushner, Donald Trump's son-in-law, regarding the investment in the Sazan island. According to him, this investment shows that Albania is a very safe country and will significantly affect the global tourism market. He called on tourism operators to improve their service and offer, in order to be ready for the developments that this investment will bring.
“It was spread everywhere, and also foreign media have written that the government has sold the island of Sazan to the Trump family, but this is not true. We have not sold and are not selling Sazan, as it is the property of the Republic of Albania and will remain so. Even today, we have not closed the negotiation for Sazan, but we are in negotiations. The Albanian state will be part of the joint company that will invest and administer the island, and in this project, Albanians are represented by the state. This is not a closed resort, like some resorts that operate with limited access, where only residents and guests enter. The project will not be isolated, and a closed or privileged space will not be created. It has changed during the process and foresees very few constructions, with an important cultural and artistic profile. I believe that it will be one of the most beautiful projects in the Mediterranean. Together with the area opposite Sazan, where a private investment is being developed with the involvement of some of the most famous architects in the world, this will bring a significant increase in the value of investments throughout the area,” Rama said.
“Those who see this development narrowly fail to understand its broader impact. The value of properties and new investments in Vlora will increase. People will want to be close to this development and become part of it. For this reason, it is very important that Vlora’s tourism operators have a strategic approach to the future of their investments. In the next five to ten years, the change will be greater than that of the last decade, also as a result of this investment,” Rama said.
