Bus Crash Near Tirana Leaves Driver Dead, Several Passengers Critically Injured
The driver of a bus involved in a serious traffic accident on the Durrës–Tirana highway has died, while several passengers remain in critical condition, according to officials at the University Hospital of Trauma in Tirana.
Agustin Suma, head of the hospital's emergency department, said the driver was brought to the hospital without signs of life. Among the injured are two children, including an 8- or 9-year-old in critical condition and a 14-year-old who is being monitored in the observation ward.
Five adult patients, aged between 30 and 50, are undergoing surgery for severe injuries. Two of them are foreign nationals whose identities have not yet been confirmed. Hospital officials said both remain in critical condition.
Another five injured passengers have been stabilized in the emergency department and are not considered to be in life-threatening condition.
Medical teams continue to monitor the condition of all patients as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
