Gunmen in Sarandë Shooting May Have Escaped by Sea
Authorities in Albania are focusing their investigation into the attempted assassination of 50-year-old Thimjo Rubati in the southern coastal city of Sarandë, as efforts continue to identify the attackers and trace their escape route.
According to investigators, the two suspects, who were reportedly wearing masks and motorcycle helmets during the attack, fled the scene immediately afterward and headed toward the coastal area at the end of Mithat Hoxha Street.
Investigators are examining the possibility that the suspects escaped by speedboat, using the sea as their getaway route. Police have expanded searches along nearby beaches and the coastline as efforts to locate and apprehend the attackers remain ongoing.
Sources close to the investigative team told that authorities are also exploring a possible connection between the shooting and the alleged assault of police officer Mihal Velço, an incident that occurred one day earlier. Officials have not confirmed whether the two cases are linked.
Rubati was shot multiple times outside his business in Sarandë. He was initially taken to the city's hospital, where he received emergency treatment and blood transfusions before being transferred to a hospital in Ioannina, Greece, for specialized medical care.
Authorities have not announced any arrests, and the investigation remains active.
