Head of State Police Visits Injured Officers After Violent Protest Near Parliament

The Director General of the State Police, Skënder Hita, visited injured officers at the Trauma Hospital in Tirana following clashes during a protest held earlier today outside the Albanian Parliament.

During the visit, Hita met with medical staff and spoke directly with officers who were injured while performing their duties, expressing appreciation for what he described as their professionalism, restraint, and dedication in a highly tense situation.

According to authorities, 15 police officers were injured after being targeted with stones, hard objects, and pyrotechnic devices during the protest in front of the Parliament. The officers were taken for medical treatment at Trauma Hospital. 

Hita assured the injured personnel that the institution will provide full support and ensure all necessary medical care until their full recovery. He also praised their commitment to maintaining public order and protecting state institutions under difficult conditions.

The police chief emphasized that the mission of the State Police requires professionalism, courage, and accountability, stating that officers will continue to carry out their duties firmly, in accordance with the law and in service of citizens, with a focus on public safety and the protection of institutions.

Authorities have not yet released further details regarding any detentions or investigations related to the incident.
