Highest Record Ever/ Albania Sees Nearly 400 New COVID-19 Cases

Latest figures by the health authorities have unveiled the highest escalation of coronavirus infections in Albania. After 1.725 daily tests, 396 citizens have turned out positive for SARS-CoV-2 in the last 24 hours, taking the number of active cases to 10.186 in the country.

Vast majority of the cases were registered in Tirana (278) and in Durres (15), while Kruja, Kavaja, Vlora, Mirdita and Pogradec had only one infection each.

“Positive cases confirmed in the last 24 hours have been identified in these municipalities: 278 cases in Tirana, 15 cases in Durrës, 11 cases in each Elbasan and Puka, 9 cases in Lushnja, 8 cases in Shkodra, Saranda, 6 cases in Korca, Kukës, Mallakastra, Gjirokastra, 5 cases in Fier, Tepelena, Dibra, 4 cases in Përmet, 3 cases in Lezha and Peqin, 2 cases in Delvina, 1 case in Kruja, Kavaja, Vlora, Mirdita, Pogradec”, the Ministry informed.

In addition, the Health Ministry reported that a 64-year-old from Vlora, a 65-year-old from Fier, an 81-year-old and an 84-year-old from Tirana with concomitant diseases have died due to the disease.

This number is lower than Tuesday when 5 people died from coronavirus and the previous days when more fatalities were recorded.

On a brighter note, in the last 24 hours 105 citizens have been cured, bringing the number of cured to 11,578 since the beginning of the epidemic.

The Ministry of Health called on all citizens to respect measures for the prevention of COVID-19 as it announced that 338 patients are being treated currently in the 3 Covid hospitals, 13 in intensive therapy and 4 of the latter are put on ventilators.
