Hundreds March Through Tirana, Demand Albanian Prime Minister's Resignation
Hundreds of demonstrators marched through the streets of Tirana on Thursday evening following hours of protest outside the Prime Minister's Office, where participants once again called for the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and his government.
After the rally concluded, protesters headed toward Police Station No. 3, where more than ten individuals have been detained since earlier in the day following clashes with police during a separate demonstration outside Albania's Parliament.
The march began in central Tirana before moving through the "9-Katëshet" neighborhood and continuing along Mine Peza Street toward the police station, where several of the detained protesters are being held.
As the crowd marched through the capital, demonstrators chanted slogans including "Free the boys" and "Criminal police," demanding the release of those taken into custody.
Protesters also reiterated the central demand of the ongoing 33-day protest movement, calling for Prime Minister Edi Rama's resignation. Chants of "Rama, resign," "Albania demands revolution," and "Rama to prison, Berisha to prison" echoed through the streets, reflecting broader frustration with the country's political leadership.
Thursday's demonstration followed earlier tensions outside Parliament, where confrontations between protesters and police were reported. Law enforcement officers used tear gas and pepper spray to disperse crowds during the clashes, leading to multiple detentions.
The protests are part of a continuing wave of anti-government demonstrations that have drawn thousands of participants demanding political accountability and government change.
