Interior Minister Vows 'Zero Tolerance' After Arrests in Saranda Illegal Construction Case
Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari has reacted following the police operation carried out in Saranda over illegal constructions, which resulted in the arrest of several police officials and employees suspected of cooperating with law violators.
In a statement published on his social media, Lamallari stressed that there is no place in the Albanian State Police for individuals who abuse their duties or collaborate with criminal elements.
The minister praised the operation conducted by the Police Oversight Agency (AMP) in cooperation with the State Police, describing it as proof of the authorities’ determination to cleanse police ranks of individuals who undermine the law and public trust.
“Police officers who betray the people and abuse their position will be identified, targeted, and brought before justice,” Lamallari declared.
He further warned that authorities would apply “zero tolerance” toward every case of abuse, ranging from failure to act against illegal constructions to compromises with criminal groups.
At the end of his statement, the minister congratulated the new leadership of both the Police Oversight Agency and the State Police, emphasizing that there would be “no step back” in the fight against illegality.
