Kosovo Urges EU to React after Serbia-Russia Gas Agreement

After the Vuicic-Putin telephone conversation about Russian gas, official Pristina reacted, saying that Serbia and Russia are strengthening their partnership and asking the European Union, how long will the EU tolerate this?

Serbia and Russia have agreed on a three-year gas deal, under which Serbia will be supplied with Russian gas. This was announced by the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, after a phone call he had with the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin. According to the Serbian president, Serbia will have a very favorable price for Russian gas.

"Serbia needs large quantities of gas, but I can say that we will have a safe winter and further talks will determine how much gas will cost us," Vucic told a news conference in Belgrade.

Currently the price of gas that Serbia buys from Russian Gazprom is much lower than the price at which other European countries buy this material. Vucic said the price is expected to be USD 340 to USD 350 per 1,000 cubic meters of gas, but this is not the final price because it will depend on the quantity that is sent. Following this announcement, the highest authorities of Kosovo reacted.

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, wrote on Twitter that Putin and Vuçic no longer need to meet as agreements are now reached through telephone conversations, recalling a statement by President Vuçiç regarding Kosovo, after his meeting with Putin in Sochi on November 25, 2021.

Regarding the Serbia-Russia agreement, the Kosovo Presidency also reacted through the Chief of Staff of the Presidency, Blerim Vela.

"Serbia, an EU candidate country, instead of approximating to EU sanctions, deepens cooperation with Russia. How long will the EU tolerate this?" Vela wrote on Twitter.
