National Art Gallery’s Director Steps Down

Erzen Shkololli has completed his mandate as director of the National Gallery of Arts and has left duty, saying that during his tenure, he aimed for the Gallery to become an inevitable point of the cultural itinerary.

The news was announced by Shkololli himself in a statement made on the social networks, where he thanks all his collaborators in these years that he has run the gallery.

“At the end of my term as head of the National Gallery of Arts, I would like to express my gratitude to all collaborators, local and international artists who generously contributed work and advice to restore the splendor of this institution, the pillar of Albania's cultural values.

In particular, I want to thank the art-loving public in Tirana and beyond who embraced this new concept of the Gallery. During my tenure, I aimed for the Gallery to become an inevitable point of the cultural itinerary, especially during the unveiling of the Open Archive exhibition, a return to time and space that together enabled us to see from a critical distance the past engraved in sculpture, the dissidence of demonstrated in one color, the ideology portrayed as colorless.

I cordially thank the Prime Minister of Albania, Mr. Edi Rama, for his trust and opportunity to carry out this mission of re-creating the Gallery as a central node of cultural life, whose support was complete.

And finally, I thank the tireless team of the National Gallery of Arts, a professional and devoted staff, who embraced this concept and transformation to jointly contribute to the quality of Albania's cultural and art-loving tradition. Thanks to them, this journey, which will not stop here, became possible”, stated Shkololli.
