Opposition Protest to Disrupt Traffic in Central Tirana on May 8
Tirana Police has announced a series of security and traffic measures ahead of an opposition protest scheduled to take place on Friday evening in front of the government headquarters in central Tirana.
According to an official statement, representatives of the Democratic Party of Albania notified authorities about a rally set for May 8, 2026, at 19:00 local time on the “Dëshmorët e Kombit” boulevard, near the Prime Minister’s Office.
In accordance with Albania’s law on public gatherings, police said measures have been put in place to ensure the smooth conduct of the demonstration and maintain public order.
As part of the security plan, traffic restrictions and road closures will be implemented in several key areas of the capital.
Authorities said that beginning at 23:45 on May 7 until the end of the protest, vehicle movement and parking will be prohibited along “Dëshmorët e Kombit” boulevard, from the area known as “Ura e Dajtit” to “Ismail Qemali” street.
Additional road closures will begin at 15:00 on May 8 and remain in effect until the conclusion of the rally. These restrictions will affect the section of “Dëshmorët e Kombit” boulevard stretching from the intersection near the Ministry of Interior to “Mother Teresa” Square, as well as the surrounding streets “Ukraina e Lirë,” “Papa Gjon Pali II,” and “Ismail Qemali.”
Police urged protest organizers to respect the approved time frame and designated protest area, while also asking citizens for understanding regarding traffic disruptions.
Authorities further called on members of the public to distance themselves from any unlawful acts that could threaten public order and security.
