Paganini's 24 Caprices and the Challenge of Interpreting them by Tedi Papavrami in a Single Concert

The concert on May 12, 2026, at the TKOB hall, in which Tedi Papavrami performed Paganini’s 24 Caprices for solo violin, was undoubtedly a triumph of the great art of violin playing that he so brilliantly represents.

For nearly 1 hour and 20 minutes, the completely packed hall of the Opera Theater held its breath, listening intently to capture the magic of Paganini’s Caprices as brought to life by Tedi in a single concert.

Very few violinists have attempted or succeeded in doing this. Names such as Salvatore Accardo, Itzhak Perlman, Augustin Hadelich, and Hilary Hahn come to mind — artists who have challenged their own limits to confront the mountain of technical difficulties that Paganini, the king of the violin, created for them.

Yesterday, Tedi Papavrami climbed that very mountain. What can one say about his playing? Absolute precision and technique, perfectly judged dynamics, and contrasts between the caprices that revealed Paganini’s music — music hidden and surrounded by the “fence” of dozens and hundreds of techniques that Paganini deliberately invented to test violinists. In short, Paganini’s Caprices do not merely require a violinist to play them; they demand an entire orchestra in one person, such is the complexity of their musical lines.Tedi constructed his performance with great care, notably choosing different tempos for the various caprices. It’s somewhat like a road where you must take the turns with precision and drive fast enough on the straight sections.

Tedi’s playing demonstrated high virtuosity in the fast caprices (e.g., Caprice 4) and warm musicality in the slower, quieter ones that demanded a completely different approach (e.g., Caprice 21).For years now, Tedi has not simply played the notes — he uncovers the emotions of the musical language hidden behind them. In the case of Paganini’s Caprices, we can say he has awakened their unique magic through the artistry of his interpretation. To conclude, his performance of Caprice 24 was simply magnificent. The hall erupted in minutes of applause at the end of the concert.Congratulations, Maestro Tedi, for this unforgettable super concert!
