The Albanian Prosecutors’ Association has reacted to accusations made by Taulant Balla against prosecutor Arbër Berexha, after Balla alleged that the prosecutor had links to the Democratic Party (DP) following his decision to release protesters from detention.

In a statement, the association expressed concern that public statements targeting prosecutors could undermine their independence and called on political representatives to exercise their right to criticize responsibly.

“The independence of prosecutors is a guarantee of impartial justice and the equal application of the law to everyone,” the association said.

It urged political figures to avoid making unsubstantiated allegations targeting prosecutors, stressing that accountability must be based on facts and legal procedures.

“Prosecutors’ decisions must remain free from political pressure and influence,” the statement added.
