PD Voting Process in Korçë Suspended Twice Amid Disputes Over Voter Lists
The internal election process of the Democratic Party (PD) branch in Korçë was suspended twice after disputes emerged over attempts by individuals not listed in the official voter registry to cast ballots.
According to reports, the process was interrupted shortly after it began, with ballot papers initially collected and voting materials removed by commissioners. Voting later resumed but was again halted for a second time, during which ballots were reportedly torn.
The interruptions occurred after several party members who arrived to vote for the new local branch leader were not found on the official voter lists and were said to lack valid party membership documentation.
PD Korçë political leader Ivi Kaso stated that the process was not compromised, but paused due to procedural violations, emphasizing that only registered members or those with valid proof of membership are eligible to vote.
“The process was suspended because individuals attempted to vote without being on the membership list or without required documentation. The rules are the same across Albania,” Kaso said, adding that voting would resume only under established regulations.
Meanwhile, candidate Harito Zoti argued that excluding individuals from voting undermines the inclusiveness of the process, stating that some local party officials were missing from the lists and should not be denied participation.
The internal dispute reflects broader disagreements within the party over the accuracy of membership lists and election procedures. Authorities within the party say the process will resume only after conditions for a “clear and trusted” vote are ensured.
The situation remains unresolved.
