Police Launch New Cars Equipped with License Plate Readers

As part of the prevention of road accidents, the Traffic Police Directorate launches a new fleet of cars equipped with radar and automatic license plate readers.

Contrary to what we have learned so far, where the police hid in the corners of the streets to catch the drivers who broke the rules, these violations can now be documented quite simply inside the new police vehicles.

As of last Monday night, in addition to the intelligent car and automatic radars, 10 new vehicles have appeared on the ground, equipped with modern logistics tools, which record the speed of circulation and automatically read the license plates of vehicles.

During Monday evening until the early hours of this Tuesday morning, 123 drivers were identified by intelligent cars on the streets of the capital, traveling at speeds two to three times above the allowed norm, and their driving licenses were suspended  from 3 to 12 months. They have been punished with an administrative measure from 10,000 to 30,000 ALL, and have been deducted from 5 to 12 points from the driving license.

From the findings of the operators it resulted that out of 103 drivers registered for speeding, 39 of them, in addition to speed, were also found using the mobile phone; 31 of them, in addition to speed, were found without wearing a seat belt, while 23 drivers were found to have committed 3 violations, speeding, not wearing a seat belt and using a mobile phone while driving.

Intelligent cars and car fleets equipped with radar and automatic license plate readers will circulate not only on the streets of the capital, but also in all cities and road axes in the country, in order to discipline wrong overtaking, prevent speeding and dangerous manoeuvres on the road, the identification of those drivers who use the cell phone while driving or do not fasten their seat belts, as well as the identification and punishment of any other violation that is a source of involvement in road accidents.
