Police Recover Car Used in Double Murder in Lezhë, One Suspect Still at Large
A major breakthrough has been made in the investigation into the killing of a married couple in northern Albania, after police discovered the getaway vehicle allegedly used in the attack hidden in a rural property.
According to authorities in Lezhë, the vehicle used in the shooting of Kreshnik and Gentjana Mujeci on April 26, 2026, in the village of Balldren, was found concealed under vegetation inside a house in the village of Torovicë.
Police confirmed that the car — a black “Volkswagen Polo” with no license plates — was discovered at the residence of a local resident identified as Besnik Kolndreu. Investigators say the vehicle was likely used to block the victims’ path before the attackers opened fire with automatic weapons.
During the search, forensic teams recovered two spent shell casings of type 56 ammunition inside the car. The vehicle’s rear and side windows were also found shattered, suggesting it was heavily involved in the shooting.
Authorities also located a second similar vehicle in the same yard, registered and belonging to the homeowner. In addition, clothing believed to have been worn by the perpetrators at the time of the crime was seized as evidence.
Preliminary investigations indicate that a 22-year-old suspect, identified as F. M., is believed to have rented the vehicle through a relative who had obtained it from Rinas International Airport. Police say the car’s license plates were removed before the attack, and it was then used in coordination with another suspect who remains at large.
The Albanian State Police confirmed that one suspect has been officially declared wanted, while operations continue to locate and apprehend those involved in what investigators describe as a planned and coordinated execution-style attack.
Authorities have not yet disclosed a motive, but the investigation remains ongoing as forensic analysis and witness questioning continue.
